A young couple in Ireland has set a world record for the fastest curling shot in Irish history.
The Irish Curling Association (ICAA) says the record shot took place at the National Championship on Saturday night, when Michael and Helen Kelly of Ballymun, Co Cork, were the youngest winners of a curling competition in its history.
A video of the historic event shows the two curling masters making the first-ever double shot in the Irish Curled Association (ICA) national championships at the Leeson Stadium in Co Cork.
“We have been playing curling for 10 years now,” Michael Kelly said.
“It is our passion, our passion to do well.
It is what we have been doing all these years.”
The Irishmen had originally been competing in the national competition at the age of 14, but they were competing in their first major curling event when the World Curling Championships were held in London in 2014.
The Kelly brothers were among the top five winners of the European Championships in 2015.
The event has become a regular event at the Irish National Championship, with many Irish competitors claiming honours over the past few years.
